Geek Therapy

On one of the sites I usually follow, I found this new webseries about geek culture: Geek Therapy.
It only has six episodes by now, but more are coming out. The sketches follow the work of a "geek therapist", a woman who helps people find their inner geek. I'm liking it so far and I thought that some of my fellow geeks might like it too!

I leave you the first episode, I hope you like it!

22 Things To Do Before 23

I love lists and I love goals. So, having seen this on a few blogs (I'm sorry, but I don't really recall which ones), I thought it was a really great idea to adopt!

This is a list about 22 things I want to do before I turn 23 years old (which will be in November):
  1. Learn HTML
  2. Practice and learn more about digital photography
  3. Improve my italian
  4. Start learning how to play a musical instrument (maybe the guitar, or maybe go back to my violin)
  5. Exercise on a regular basis
  6. Start practicing yoga and meditation
  7. Take better care of my health
  8. Do a lot more cooking
  9. Organize my recipes (and also find new ones)
  10. Start saving money
  11. Spend less on unimportant stuff (it relates to the goal above, but it's not quite the same)
  12. Get to max level on Star Wars: The Old Republic!
  13. Watch a lot more anime
  14. Read more manga
  15. Read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  16. Re-read all Harry Potter books
  17. Own and take care of a bonsai tree
  18. Do some kind of art project. A simple one
  19. Do some kind of volunteer work
  20. Buy a new desktop computer
  21. Buy a reflex camera
  22. Find out my vocation (that's going to be a tough one...)
As you can see, there's some pretty hardcore stuff in there. If I manage to do half of it, I'll be a very happy person.

Update!

So, today should have been the day to talk about the movies I've seen this week (it was only one, actually), but studying for an exam I have Tuesday kept me from writing my review. It's so late and I'm still awake (although I have slept for a while earlier) and I should be up not very late tomorrow, so I can make myself useful!

This week was a busy one, but I still managed to take a little bit of time for the things I love. I've read a book (Forgotten, by Cat Patrick) and a graphic novel (The Guild), got back on playing Star Wars - The Old Republic, seen the first Sherlock Holmes (so I can catch the new one on the cinema this week!) and a few episodes of some of the shows I follow. I also started seeing Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who and Claymore (an anime).

I'm glad that the first phase of exams is almost over! I will be posting some reviews for the books I already read this year when I have a bit more of free time.

I hope you all have a nice week and I'll see ya soon!

Quotes #1

Wash: Psychic though? That sounds like something out of science fiction.
Zoe: We live in a spaceship, dear.

Movies of the Week #1

Being a cinema fan, I decided to create a little weekly meme to talk about the movies I've seen. This way I don't forget them and it also encourages me to keep on watching even more. Oh, and I accept suggestions on the comments too! (My opinions will be really simple, as I'm not an expert in cinematography or anything like that)

The Help / As Serviçais (2011)

Definitely, I started the year in the best way! I saw this movie with high expectations and it didn't disappoint. I loved the characters and the cast performances. The story is captivating and it has a good balance between dramatic and fun moments.
It made me want to read the book. I truly recommend!

Recomendo!

Män Som Hatar Kvinnor / The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo / Os Homens Que Odeiam as Mulheres (2009)

As soon as I finished reading the book that originated this movie, I went ahead and saw it. Besides that, I had promised to a norwegian friend that I would see the swedish adaptation before seeing the american one.
I liked it, it was pretty loyal to the book, but I got a bit annoyed at the some parts being missing or altered. I will do a post dedicated to the book and the two movies after I see the hollywood version, so I'm not gonna dwell on this right now!

When I think about this movie, only one thing comes to mind: Why have I not see this before?!
Contrary to what some people may believe, this movie is not about a group of men who get together to fight, it is not about violence. Of course it is a part of it, but Fight Club is much, much more than that. It's a story about dissatisfaction with life and also about the decision to change it and make it something with more meaning. It's a manifest against consumerism and it deals with the feeling of release (which in this case is inicially met by the fights).
The narrative done by the protagonist is absolutely amazing. This is a complicated movie, with a lot of mindfuck moments. Exactly my type of film. If you've never seen it, go see it now!
Oh, and another thought: I must read the book.

New Year's Eve / Ano Nova, Vida Nova (2011)

This is not the kind of movie that I usually spend money to catch at the cinema, but being it the birthday of a friend of mine, there I went.
New Year's Eve features a luxury cast and uses the same formula as Love Actually, in which different small stories intertwine on a special occasion. Unfortunately, it is not as good as Love Actually, but, on the other hand, it is not as bad as Valentine's Day (from the same director).
Not having any kind of expectations for this movie, I was entertained, but you should wait and see it at home, on a lazy afternoon. Oh, and the best part of the movie were the bloopers, definitely! So don't fail to see them.
